Yours Legally

Yours Legally written by Sonia Sahijwani is a collection of short stories mostly of court proceedings set in Northern India. The stories are viewed through the eyes of Sia, an intern who works under her boss. Stories are instances of court proceedings, with the basic elements critical to law, exploring different lives, cultures, and ages. Protagonist Sia completed her law studies against her wishes but finally, when she completes it she explores various opportunities that this field has to offer.

The background story of the characters could have been more descriptive. I secretly wished the character of the intern, Sia, to be more layered and dark, like the cover of the book. The structure of the book is very simple, Siya goes to the court and attends the hearing as a viewer, and it enhances her understanding of the law, as she is relatively new to this field.

The first chapter explains the entire story behind how she gets placed in a law firm, and then starts working under her boss, to which I feel the background of the characters could be discussed. Stories that follow Revolves around one single element. But as a debut author, this book is pretty good.

1)99 Vs निन्यानबे
The Complainant element. “Equity follows the same”.
2) The Kid on the last bench
The Court element. “The Practice of court is the law of court”.
3) The Wait for Item №25
The Case element. “The law cannot fail in dispensing justice”.
4) Behind those dark shades
The Counsel element. “The law speaks to all with one mouth”.
5) Jail №5
The Confinement element. “That punishment may come to a few, the fear of it should affect all”.
6) Qaidi №90
The Criminal element. “The Crime Carries the Person”.

I recommend this book to people who are in this profession for those who are new readers and want to get an insight into the Indian legal system and court proceedings. The writings are simple and the language used is easy.
